Volunteer Tasks and Assignments:

Below is a Detailed Overview of The Assignments on Build Day That Volunteers Will Do. 

Project Overview:

Enhance the school environment with a sensory pathway, interior painting, outdoor pavement painting, and installing swings. Cleanup activities are also planned to revitalize the school's outdoor spaces.

 
April 12- Build Day Prep:
  • Tool pickup and delivery of mulch, bushes, rakes, shovels, and swing installation tools.

 
Project #1: Sensory Pathway

Activity Leader: Danielle Nutter/Janelle Clancy

Objective: Create a sensory pathway using a sticker kit to enhance the school's indoor environment.

Plan:

  • Clean the floor where the stencils will be placed.

  • Follow the directions provided with the sensory path sticker kit to apply stickers to the hallway floor and wall.

Tools Needed: Sensory path sticker kit, floor cleaning supplies

Project #2: Cleanup

Activity Leader: Céili Donnelly

Objective: Clean up the school's front area and playground, and enhance the landscaping with new mulch and bushes.

Plan:

  • Rake leaves and debris from the front of the school and playground.

  • Apply mulch to playground areas and front landscaping.

  • Plant 3 bushes in designated spots in front of the school.

Tools Needed: 20 rakes, 8 shovels, 3 bushes, 20 bags of mulch, 30 gardening gloves, 20 large trash bags

Project #4: Swing Set Installation

Activity Leader: Céili Donnelly/ W4W

Objective: Install 3 new swings to provide additional outdoor activities for students.

Plan:

  • Installation to be done before/after Build Day.

  • Coordinate with the site devolpment team for delivery and installation requirements.

Tools Needed: Provided with swings; details to be confirmed.

Volunteers Needed: 5/34 (Installation done prior to Build Day)

 
Project #5: Outdoor Blacktop Painting

Activity Leader: Céili Donnelly

Objective: Create engaging and colorful games and paths on the outdoor pavement.

Plan:

  • Clean and prepare the pavement surface.

  • Use measuring tapes and chalk to outline games and paths.

  • Paint foursquare, hopscotch, paths, handprints, and footprints using water-based latex paint.

  • Wash brushes and rollers using coffee cans filled with water.

Tools Needed: Water-based latex paint (7 gallons, various colors), 8 rollers, 15 paint brushes, 2 measuring tapes, 4 pieces of white chalk, 8 coffee cans

Volunteer Management
  • Parking Situation: Large parking lot on site is available for volunteers.

  • Volunteer Transport: Transportation provided by 3 cars between the project director and 2 site managers.
