Volunteer Tasks and Assignments:

Below is a Detailed Overview of The Assignments on Build Day That Volunteers Will Do. 

Project Overview:

Enhance the play and learning environment for elementary students by adding new basketball hoops, repainting blacktop games, and beautifying the courtyard with new plantings and mulch.

April 12 - Build Day Prep:

Prepare for painting and basketball hoop installation by using tape and/or stencils to outline games and court features. Confirm all materials and tools are ready.

 
Project #1: Basketball Hoops Installation

Activity Leader: Nora

Objective: Supervise the installation of two new basketball hoops to ensure they are set up correctly and safely for student use.

Plan:

  1. Assess the installation area for each hoop, confirming measurements and placement.

  2. Assist Consigli if needed with the basketball hoops, following their instructions.

  3. Install the hoops securely, using 1 ft extensions to adjust the height as necessary.

  4. Test the hoops for stability and safety.

Tools Needed: Basketball hoops (with 1 ft extensions)

Volunteers Needed: 0-3

 
Project #2: Painting Blacktop Games

Activity Leaders: Daria, Jorji (& Nora if needed)

Objective: Refresh the appearance of existing blacktop games and add new ones, enhancing the play area's vibrancy and utility.

Plan:

  1. Clean the blacktop surface before painting.

  2. Use tape measures and painter's tape to outline the basketball court, ensuring accuracy.

  3. Place plastic tarps around the painting area to protect the surrounding surfaces.

  4. Paint the games using various colors, possibly including 4-square courts, a basketball key, and a kickball court.

  5. Allow paint to dry completely before removing any tape.

Tools Needed: Various colors of paint, paintbrushes, tape measure, painter's tape, paint trays, plastic tarp

Volunteers Needed: 7-10

 
Project #3: Planting

Activity Leader: Matt

Objective: Beautify the courtyard by planting flowers and applying mulch around the bases of three trees.

Plan:

  1. Prepare the soil around each tree, removing weeds and loosening the soil.

  2. Plant various flowers and plants.

  3. Apply mulch around the newly planted areas to retain moisture and discourage weed growth.

  4. Water the plants thoroughly after planting.

Tools Needed: Various flowers/plants, mulch, gardening shovels, gardening gloves

Volunteers Needed: 5-7

  • Parking Situation: To be arranged, ensuring easy access for volunteers.

  • Volunteer Transport: Volunteers are encouraged to carpool or use public transportation where available.
