Worcester, MA

ABOUT WORCESTER, MA

A robust, vibrant city in the heart of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Worcester combines the warmth of a small town with the convenience of a thriving city. A mere hour's distance from Boston, MA, Springfield, MA, Providence, RI and Hartford, CT, Worcester is at the crossroads of several major routes, including the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90), Interstates 190, 290 and 395, and Routes 9 and 146.

A manufacturing and innovation giant for 200 years, Worcester's landscape blends diverse architecture with neighborhood centers and inviting green spaces. An admirable mix of old and new, Worcester offers residents the resources and attractions of a city, balanced with the more intimate, livable scale of a mid-size city. With six million people living within a 50-mile radius, unique opportunities exist in Worcester for dynamic business growth.

Worcester has transformed itself into a leader in advanced manufacturing, information technology, biotechnology, health care, and medical research. “The skyline is changing” is one of the phrases repeated time and time again in response to the development projects underway or recently completed in Worcester, particularly within the Downtown.  These projects are considered by many as catalysts of economic growth paving the way for a more vibrant city.

There's always something happening in Worcester! From world-renowned museums and concert halls to regionally-lauded theatres, galleries, singing groups and ethnic festivals, Worcester can satisfy any appetite for cultural nourishment. As home to a world class performance arena, Worcester has welcomed the likes of Neil Diamond, Andrea Bocelli, Britney Spears, the Rugrats and many others to the DCU Center.

Every year 32,000 students from across the world come to Worcester to attend one of the twelve colleges and universities that call the city home.  These students reap the benefits of the city’s infrastructure, cultural opportunities, and generosity and, moreover, add to Worcester's diversity.  By uniting students, residents, the local government and educational institutions in a collective moment of community action, Working for Worcester seeks to both demonstrate our appreciation for the city's heart-warming hospitality and cultivate a sense of community pride.
